Although Alec and I had been very close and I had been his campaign manager when he was elected in 1990, I think it would be fair to say that it put some strain on the relationship, that particular contest. But I stood for the leadership in 2004, on a very strong, I suppose you would call it modernising agenda, reform agenda. I’d also, well actually technically I had not challenged Alec for the leadership, he had challenged me, because I was nominated first. So I wasn’t part of the sort of inside group that had got into government. I mean, you know, I had not been in the parliament between 20, because I lost my seat in 2003.
